United Nations Stamps

Announcement of the Next United Nations Stamp Issue



On 12 February 1997, the United Nations Postal Administration will continue with the stamps of the Flag Series by releasing eight new stamps illustrating the flags of an additional eight Member States of the United Nations. The Series began in 1980 and reached a temporary conclusion in 1989.

Also on 12 February 1997, six new definitive stamps in denominations of 8 cents, 55 cents, F.s. 0,10, F.s. 1,10, S 5 and S 6 will be issued. This date will be the last day of sale of the existing 8 cents (1971), F.s. 0,10 (1969), S 5 (1979) and S 6 (1979) definitive stamps.

Three postal stationery items will be issued also on 12 February 1997. A 32 cents pre-stamped envelope in two sizes will replace the current revalued 1989 25 cent envelopes and a new 50 cents air letter will replace the revalued 1992 45 cent air letter.
