e-mail (from Juno)
Juno claims to be the first free Internet e-mail service in the U.S. They state:
Electronic mail is to this decade what the fax machine was to the last:
a communication tool that has suddenly become an indispensable part of
millions of people's lives. Some 35 million computer users worldwide are
currently estimated to exchange more than a billion e-mail messages each
month, and these numbers are growing as explosively as the Internet itself.
Until now, however, if you wanted an e-mail address for your personal
use and weren't already at a university or company that supplied you with
one, you had to rent one, usually bundled together with a package of other
services, from an Internet access provider or from an online service such
as Prodigy, CompuServe, or America Online. Such companies typically charge
their subscribers between $100 and $200 per year, and if you don't keep
paying, you lose your e-mail.
Juno aims to change all that. Juno provides e-mail service to anyone
with access to a personal computer and a modem, and it provides this service
at no cost to its members. To take advantage of the free service, members
just have to install on their computers a free software package developed
by Juno. The initial version of this software package runs on PC-compatible
computers under Microsoft's Windows® operating system.

GeoCities is a company dedicated to offering rich and dynamic content for their members and visitors alike. The centerpiece of that strategy is providing free Personal Home Pages and a free member Email account in one of their thirty themed communities to anyone with access to the Web. They have more than 325,000 individuals sharing their thoughts and passions with the world, and creating the most diverse and unique content on the Web. Their philosophy has always been that locations on the Internet become easier to relate to when they are rich with content and closely identified with an actual idea or location. In support of this belief and in keeping with the culture of the Internet, they have developed a free Personal Home Page program, and built themed communities to accomodate thousands of home pages.
